INFORMATION TO THE PARENTS - RULES AND REGULATIONS

 

Welcome to the Paediatric Ward. We hope your stay will be brief and pleasant. If for some unfortunate reason you and your child have to stay for a longer period, we hope that we can be of service and comfort to you. Please feel free to ask our staff members any questions concerning your child. The pediatricians are available to answer any questions you may have everyday during ward rounds or privately in the doctor’s room between 10.30 to 11.00 a.m.

 

Visiting Hours- 2.00p.m. to 8.00 p.m. everyday. No visitors in the morning.

A smile Heals

  

  • Only parents/guardians may visit during medical rounds. They may visit 24 hours a day.

  • Only 3 visitors are allowed at the patient’s bedside at any time. Visitors should not sit on patient’s bed/cot.

  • Brothers and sisters at least 3 years old may visit during visiting hours only.  It is not recommended to bring babies during visits.

  • The medical and nursing staff reserves the right any time to ask visitors to leave.

  • Only one adult is allowed to stay overnight with the patient. All patients must be bathed by 8.00a.m. before the doctor’s rounds.

  • All patients/guardians will be automatically covered by a medical certificate if they stay in hospital with their sick child under the age 7 years. Parents whose child is older will be covered only if the child is seriously ill or on the day of the operation if this is the case. Parents who have any query should speak to their respective doctor on admission.  

  • Only parents who have been authorised to stay with their child will be provided with meals.

  • The toilets and bath in the cubicles is to be used by patients only except for private rooms. Parents are to use the main on in the corridor.

  • Nursing mothers should wear respectable clothing on the ward. It is not advisable to wear nightdresses.

  • Children must not be left unattended at any time. If a parent has to leave the ward, he/she has to inform the nursing staff .

  • Cot sides should be raised to avoid accidental falls.

  • Parents must not sleep in patient’s cots even at night. Camp beds/Mattresses are distributed at 10.00 p.m. They are collected at 6.00 a.m.

  • Patients must be settled in bed by 10.00 p.m.

  • Noise level must be kept to the minimum at all times.

  • Parents are advised to put their children to rest after lunch

  • Once admitted, parents are not allowed to take their child away form the ward.

  • To prevent cross infection, parents should not put their children in other patients cot/bed or take them to other cubicles.

  • Patients in isolation wards should remain in their cubicles and should not mix with other patients. Please use all facilities available in your room.

  • Mile room should be used for sterilizing bottles and preparing feeds. Do not use hand basins in the corridor for washing bottles.

  • Parents should not leave sharp objects such as scissors, penknives or safety-pins which might cause harm to their children or other patients.

  • Parents are informed that temperature is taken either orally, rectally or aural (ear)

  • All patients must be in their cubicles at 6 a.m., 10.00 a.m., 2 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10.00 p.m. for treatment and observation rounds.

 

Private Rooms

 

There are 3 available at 300/- per night for residents. Should you require make your request on admission. None residents should refer to the doctor nurse during admission
