COMMUNICABLE DISEASES CONTROL UNIT

 

 

CDCU operates as a specialist outpatient clinic for the communicable diseases such as tuberculosis ,leprosy, sexually transmitted infections (STI's) and HIV/AIDS.

 

The unit also deals with international vaccinations (Yellow fever,cholera etc) and chemoprophylaxis for malaria.

 

CDCU is located at the Victoria Hospital Yellow Roof building. The unit provides confidential services in the diagnosis, treatment and counseling of patients with STIs and attempts to educate individuals about the importance of behavior modification in preventing recurrence. In order to break the transmission chain of STI's, the CDCU assistant performs contact tracing.

 

The unit also collaborates deals with counseling, follow-ups and management of HIV positive and AIDS patients.

 

Diagnosis and treatment for leprosy and tuberculosis is expanded into long-term follow up of patients and their contacts. The team also regularly visits Praslin to conduct outpatient clinics and perform follow-up   home visits.
