Ministry
of Health - Republic of Seychelles
The
Ministry of Health is a governmental organisation which aims to provide
affordable, accessible and high standard of health care services to the
people of Seychelles at all times. Every
citizen has the right to protection to health and to the enjoyment of the
highest attainable standard of physical and mental health.
In order to ensure that this right is observed, the constitution of
the Republic of Seychelles allows for:

Free
primary health care in state institutions for all its citizens;

Appropriate
measures to prevent, treat and control epidemic, endemic and other
diseases;

Effective
measures to reduce infant mortality and promote the healthy
development of the child;
-
Promotion
of individual responsibility in health matters;
-
Supervisions
and conditions necessary in a democratic society, for the
establishment of private medical services
The
mission of the Ministry of Health is 'Health
for all,' which means that health care services should be
accessible to all Seychellois and should be based on the need and not
ability to pay.

Health Facilities
The
Victoria Hospital is the main referral hospital, which provides
specialised health care on the wards and in the Surgical Outpatients Unit.
There is also a smaller hospital at Anse Royale, Baie Ste Anne Praslin and
La Digue, which offer non-specialised services.
Other
secondary hospitals include the Mental Hospital at Les Cannelles, which is
specifically for patients with long-term mental illnesses and the North
East Point Hospital, which provides nursing care to patients who are
terminally ill

Centres, are the hearts of the community and they are found on the four
main islands of Mahe, Praslin, La Digue and Silhoutte.
The focus is on bringing health to the community with more emphasis
