National
AIDS Council (NAC)
The
prevention and control of HIV and the care of people living with HIV/AIDS
are national concerns. The
National Policy on HIV/AIDS as well as the National Strategy call for
coordinated action on the part of government, non-govermental
organisations, the private sector, community groups and the general
population. This approach is
consistent with the proposals of UNAIDS and other international agencies.
The
National AIDS Council (NAC) is a multisectoral and multidisciplinary
committee in the National Policy on the Prevention and Control of HIV/AIDS
in Seychelles.
Members
are experts in their field and their participation will be of tremendous
contribution to controlling the spread of HIV/AIDS in Seychelles.
The
terms of reference of the council are:

Creating
and strengthening partnerships for an expanded national response to
the AIDS epidemic among all sectors
-
Advising
on the National Strategic Plan on HIV/AIDS in Seychelles
-
Determining
activities for the Strategic Plan
-
Advising
the Cabinet on issues pertaining to HIV/AIDS policy
-
Planning,
co-ordination, monitoring and evaluation of the national response to
HIV/AIDS/STIs
-
Recommending
appropriate research
-
Advocating
for the effective involvement of sectors and organisations in
implementing programmes and strategies
-
Mobilising
resources for programme implementation
-
Initiating
and/or undertaking policy formulation and review
-
Encouraging
greater involvement of persons living with HIV or AIDS
