The Youth Health Centre provides the following services:

 

Youth to Youth HIV/ AIDS Sensitisation Group

(Motto: Youth taking a stand against this killer disease)

 

Peer Educators first initiated this group after a workshop on HIV/ AIDS in 1999.

 

Aim:

To strengthen the youth partnership with the Ministry of Health and ensure that youth are well-informed on issues related to HIV/AIDS

 

 The group organises several activities such as

§         Masses

§         Educational kiosk

§         Exhibitions

§         Talks in schools

§         Radio and TV programmes

§         Gospel shows

 The Reproductive Health Programme

This programme addresses issues on adolescent reproductive and sexual health services including health Education and counseling.

This is done according to the policy and guidelines for young people being set at the MOH.

Aim

To provide and strengthen the reproductive health education, contraceptive services to young people. The staff works in close collaboration with a gynaecologist, CDCU, social workers, NCC and the parents.

 The Young Parents Support Group

Was initiated in 1997. It targets young people below the age of 19 years.

Aim

To empower young people with skills and knowledge in order to improve their health and the health of their family.

The information is given in a one-day workshop that is being organised every month.  Different topics on health related issues including parenting, reproductive health are delivered to them. Participants are also involved in practical and interactive exercises.

 Adolescent Nutrition programme

Obesity and other nutrition disorders amongst adolescent are increasing in Seychelles. The prevalence of obesity amongst children remarkably high.

 

The programme addresses issues on healthy lifestyle pertaining to young people.  It provides the young people with information and skills and motivates them to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

      deliver talks on: healthy eating

·        Self esteem

·        Practical cooking demonstrations

 Edutainment group

It facilitates young people in expressing themselves in recreational and educational activities such as music, role-play and arts
