24 hour assessment and brief treatment/support for those presenting with acute mental health problems or those presenting as psychiatric emergencies.


This service is for referrals  from GPs, Casualty, Social Services, Probation Services.

A 13 bed rapid response inpatient unit for acute mental health problems including alcohol and drug detoxification and treatment.

 

Extension to Intensive care

A two room facility confinement care and treatment for individuals experiencing severe mental health difficulties

Other information

 

We aim to meet the needs of individuals with severe mental health problems both in the acute and early stages. Through early intervention we aim to reduce the need for treatment away from the community setting. The inpatient unit offers a safe, supportive environment whilst delivering a range of therapeutic interventions designed to maintain the client's safety, alleviate symptoms and facilitate return to a community setting. We aim to deliver a professional service by providing a high standard of skilled, efficient and empathetic care to our clients.

 

This service is for (intensive care)
individuals whose behavior renders them unsafe, either to themselves or others, to be cared for by their referring wards

We offer assessment, treatment and an intensive level of nursing care to patients who:

- Present a risk to others due to actual or threatening violent behavior
- Present a risk to themselves due to suicidal ideation or actions

- Present with behavior which is too disturbed or too disruptive to 

   manage on the open ward
- Present a risk to self or others due to absconding behavior

Category:  Older adults

 

This service is aimed at patients who are 65 years and over with organic or functional mental illness. Assessment includes cognitive and mental state examination, level of social support and housing and designing comprehensive management plan to address appropriate referral, treatment, social support and follow up in the community.

Psychosis Outpatient Service 

Location : psychiatry department Victoria Hospital  Contact no. 388284

Provides an in-depth mental state examination and history; an assessment of side effects of current medication and any change in medication and an individual plan for future treatment with an option for admission to the inpatient  unit. Patients should be referred to this service if:
- they are concerned about their treatment
- there is uncertainty about diagnosis

 


Alcohol Outpatient  

Location : Psychiatry department Victoria           

 

Outpatient clinic offering treatment for alcohol misuse and dependence including patients with co-morbid psychosis and follow up of detoxified patients. Identifies clients for Mt. Royal Drug and Alcohol rehab centre

 

This service is for
Individuals with alcohol misuse and dependence. Referrals from: GPs, casualty and Mt. Royal  alcohol services.

Opening times: 8am -12 noon, 1pm-4pm( prior appointment)

 

 

Child and adolescent        

Location:  Psychiatry outpatient Victoria

 

 

Behavioral problems often stemming from irritability or attention deficit/hyperactivity. Frustration due to learning difficulties or teasing may contribute to these, but they can also be due to direct brain-behavior links

Emotional difficulties including general worrying, specific fears, marked shyness and misery

Social problems particularly with peer relationships, often stemming in part from constitutional impairments in social understanding and skill

Referrals accepted from GP's, Pediatricians and school health  nurses

 

Opening times: 8am -12 noon, 1 pm-4pm( prior appointment)

 

Clinic for Anxiety Disorders, social, marital and family discord Psychiatry/psychologist outpatient


Cognitive, behavioral and psychotherapeutic treatment on an outpatient and community basis for a range of anxiety disorders and trauma.

This service is for
Sufferers of suicidal ideas and failed attempts, obsessive-compulsive disorder, health anxiety, phobias, post-traumatic stress disorders, acute grief reactions and other anxiety problems. Therapy offered primarily by the psychologist and by CPNs at the district clinics. Consultant psychiatrist intervention is offered where needed.

 

Referrals accepted from primary care doctors, casualty, probation, family tribunal, occupational health, sports health and other medical disciplines.

 

 

Depression Clinic     

Location:     Psychiatry outpatient Victoria Hospital

The Team offers a comprehensive range of interventions, which include psychological counseling and therapies as well as medication. Treatments focus on recognition and labeling of emotions, changing dysfunctional behaviors, evaluating and changing errors in thinking, communication and interpersonal skills and social problem solving. These sessions are followed by an individually determined number of follow-up sessions which aim to help the  person alleviate depressive symptoms and promote coping strategies found to be effective in relapse prevention.


The Depression Clinic - this service offers a comprehensive service for people from 14 to 65 years, seeing people with symptoms of depression which may include:


- low mood
- poor self-esteem
- suicidal ideas
- irritability
- sleep and appetite disturbance
- problems with concentration, tiredness or boredom
- anxiety, worries and panic attacks

The team comprises consultant psychiatrist, psychologist, community psychiatric nurse.

   

Community Psychiatric Nursing Service

An assessment, treatment and follow-up service to patients in the community. As part of a multi-disciplinary team members assist wit h advocacy, self-help and career support. Input can be provided in patient's own homes, residential/nursing home and district clinics. Referral for specialist opinion where indicated.

Chronically ill patients                  

Location: Les Canelles Hospital

 

The service is catered at Les Canelles hospital for all categories of patients suffering from chronic schizophrenia with social and functional impairment, social deprivation and severe mental retardation. Service includes partial to complete supervision, recreational activities, occupational therapy activities, sight seeing and day trips.
