General X-Ray Procedure:

Your doctor has requested for an x-ray of your chest, abdomen, pelvis, skull or limb.

For these x-rays, you may report to the Radiology services during normal working hours without having to arrange for an appointment.

When you arrive at the Radiology services, you should report to the reception with your request form. You will be asked to be seated until the room to be used for your x-ray examination is available.

For some x-rays, you may be asked to change into a gown with no buttons, zippers or other artefacts that could interfere with your examination. You will also be asked to remove certain items like jewellery, or dentures if the area to be x-rayed is your skull or your sinuses.

After the radiographer (x-ray technician) has completed your x-rays, you will be asked to return to the reception area. This is to give him time to  examine your films to check their quality and to organise them for reporting.

There is no need for you to wait at the radiology services if no additional films are needed. You will be informed that it is all right to return the ward or to the clinic where the x-ray examination was requested, or to proceed to the Accident and Emergency services if you require immediate attention.

A radiologist, a doctor who specializes in x-rays, will interpret your x-rays films and report the results to your doctor, who in turn will discuss the results with you.

Do not be disturbed if while you are waiting for your examinations, you notice that some other patient is called before you. This is because not all patients are having the same type of examination - it is possible that the room to be used for your examination is being used for another patient.
