Precautions

There are some examinations, that when associated with certain conditions may cause inconveniences or even harm to the patient or to the unborn child.

Please inform the attending radiology staff :

·                     If you are pregnant;

·                     If you suffer from asthma;

·                     If you have any drug allergy, especially to x-ray contrast medium.

·                     If you are diabetic, and are taking oral medication called Metformin

(Glucophage).

In the presence of certain conditions mentioned above, your examination may be postponed or cancelled by the radiologist.

In case of contra-indication of the requested examination, an alternative such as Ultrasound (which does not have known adverse effects on the body)  may be proposed by the radiologist.

Possible side-effects

These side effects may occur with the use of contrast medium in CT scans and Intravenous Urography:

  • Most of the side effects that patients sometimes experience are minor, and include nausea or vomiting, mild hot flush, cough, sneezing and a tingling sensation in the skin . These occur in only about 1% of patients who undergo these examinations.

  • Like any other drug, contrast media may induce more severe or even fatal reactions in some individuals. Fortunately, these are rare and may only affect only a very small portion of the population.
